Lahore: The water bills for car wash stations operating without having a recycling plant installed will be increased by 50% every quarter, reported a news source. The decision has been taken to stop water from being wasted at these service stations.
In this regard, Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) has sent the working paper to the governing body. Among 9many other reasons, the misuse of water at car wash stations is causing the underground water table to drop at an alarming rate. The rise in water bills for car wash centres will bring the water consumption level down and encourage the operators to install treatment plants for water recycling.
The formal order for installation of water recycling plants was issued by Lahore High Court soon after the sought measures to stop wastage of clean water. Back in October this year, WASA disconnected water supply for 280 car wash centres misusing water and sent bills amount to PKR 100,000 to those extracting water from underground.
In addition that, WASA also launched an operation against station no having water treatment plants in November. To handle the matter more effectively, WASA will now be sending higher water bills to service stations and that’s in addition to legally pursing the owners who will not install water recycling plants. The details regarding this have been included in the white paper sent to the governing body.
