Lahore: South Punjab will get a separate annual development programme (ADB), and cabinet meetings would take place in divisions other than Bahawalpur – a news source quoted Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar. He expressed these views during a meeting with Governor Chaudhry Sarwar and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

Buzdar said that a separate secretariat would be established soon, adding that rehabilitation work was being carried out on all entry and exit points of Multan and other southern Punjab divisions.
Prime Minister Imran Khan had already issued directives regarding the establishment of a separate secretariat for South Punjab by July 2019. The creation of a new province requires amending the constitution with a two-third majority in both the Parliament and the Punjab Assembly.
The Executive Council on Creation of South Punjab has also sought recommendations to introduce an advance administrative setup in either Multan or Bahawalpur. The government plans to give the status of the metropolis to one of the two cities, and the council has constituted six sub-committees to discuss the various aspects of this issue.
