Karachi: The Sindh Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has sealed several illegal factories near Mewa Shah Graveyard on account of causing environment pollution, a news source reported. The factories were set up to burn tires, wires, and electronic scrap material to extract aluminum wires and iron material.

The operation was launched on orders issued by Sind Chief Minister’s Adviser on Law, Environment, Climate Change and Coastal Development Barrister Murtaza Wahab. According SEPA Deputy Director Waris Ali Gabool, tires and scrap material was burnt in these factories causing several health hazards to the residents of the area.

The wires and iron material extracted by burning rubber and plastic in these factories was later polished and supplied in the market to be used in the preparation of other household items. The SEPA deputy director also revealed that Mewa Shah is home to huge illegal warehouses of these factories.

In another operation, the SEPA launched a crackdown at several shops and markets in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and collected samples of shopping bags to inspect their material.
