Karachi: The Sindh High Court has directed the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) to inspect the Sea View area near private restaurants to find out from how many places were industrial waste and untreated sewage being discharged into the sea, according to news in the national dailies on March 1.

As per the details, a petition was filed against dumping sewage and industrial waste into the sea. A division bench headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi asked SEPA to examine the steps taken by the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) to prevent contamination of the sweater. The SHC directed the agency to check whether the treatment plant constructed was operational or not.
Moreover, the court directed SEPA to submit a report with the findings of the inspection and recommend how to make sure seawater is maintained as per international standards. The SHC has ordered relevant authorities to assist the SEPA in the inspection. The hearing has been adjourned till April 5.

Previously, the CBC informed the court that a treatment plant was constructed and operational at Sea View and all sewage and industrial waste was cleaned. The CBC officials (whose names were not disclosed) mentioned that it was not dumping any solid waste and garbage in the sea.
