Islamabad: The Senate on Monday urged the government to protect the ownership rights of the residents of Gwadar – a news source reported.
A session of the upper house, presided over by Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, passed a unanimous resolution to this effect. It was moved by Senator Kauda Babar from Balochistan.

It called for preserving the demographic balance of Gwadar following the development of various CPEC projects. It asked the government to protect local interests against the impact of an expected mass migration.
The resolution reasoned that it is crucial to embrace opportunities brought to the fore in the wake of CPEC. However, it also stressed the importance of ownership and other rights of the people of Gwadar.

The upper house asked the government to take effective measures for the protection and promotion of local fishermen. It also made a request to the executive to ensure an alternative source of income for them.
Furthermore, it called for setting up vocational and technical training centres in Gwadar; also a focal point of CPEC.
