Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs on Thursday expressed its disappointment over delayed approvals for a ferry that will be running between Pakistan and Iran, reported a news source. The body instructed that the delays be removed and work related to the project be expedited.
Senator Nuzhat Sadiq chaired the briefing that focused on the performance of the Department of Ports and Shipping and also looked into the tourism-based service that is to involve the two port cities from the two countries, i.e. Chabahar and Gwadar port in Iran and Pakistan respectively.
During the meeting, members of the committee highlighted that work on the Iran side had been completed, however Pakistan had been lagging behind before of needless delays. The committee was told that the delay was due to the security clearance for the project.
The service is not only meant to serve as a tourist attraction but will also serve pilgrims heading to Iran and Iraq for religious reason.
