Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Interior, during a recent meeting, discussed matters relating to the illegal housing schemes located within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) – a news source reported on August 15. In particular, the committee discussed matters regarding the failure to provide utility connections to the residents of these unlawful housing societies.

Committee Chairman Senator Rehman Malik stated that the residents of these illegal housing societies should not be punished for the illegal acts perpetrated by the owners of these private housing schemes. Hence, he argued that the houses that had not been constructed on state land or on the right of way should be provided with utility connections immediately. He also asked the CDA to approve a one-time waiver for the purpose.

The committee chairman also took the opportunity to direct the Ministry of Interior to identify and deal with the individuals responsible for the development of the aforementioned illegal housing schemes.
