Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice reviewed the amendment to the Constitution Bill, 2019 (insertion of Article 253-A) regarding the authorization for foreigners to purchase land in any part of the country, according to news sources. As per the publication, this proposal had originally been introduced by Senator Mushtaq Ahmed.
The committee members called for this revision of the regulations to be introduced as an independent law, instead of as an amendment to the constitution. In addition, the meeting sought further details about the current property purchase mechanism for granting permission to foreign companies or individuals.
