Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah has enforced Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act 1894 to procure the required land along the projected route of the Leh Expressway, news sources reported on Thursday (December 16). A total of 4,708 kanal and 8 marla land will be acquired for the purpose.

According to sources, the land would be acquired throughout 16 Mouzas along the project’s 16.5-kilometre-long route. In this regard, the government has set aside PKR 24 billion for land purchase. After the imposition of Section 4, the owners of the land will be issued no-objection certificates (NOCs) by the department, as well as a market competitive compensation. The government has also said that no land compensation will be paid for state land that falls within the project’s proposed path.

It is worth noting that the PKR 100 billion Leh Expressway project is already awaiting final clearance from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). The project has been put on hold for the last 15 years, resulting in a cost increase. As a result, the government has opted to build the project now under the Public-Private Partnership (3P) model.
