Rawalpindi: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Ali Asghar has notified the imposition of Section 144; a provision which will enable the authorities concerned to pursue legal action against developers of illegal housing projects in the city, a news source reported.

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has warned real estate developers to refrain from marketing and selling their projects before procuring an NOC. Furthermore, the development authority has also been advising buyers to avoid investing in such projects. As per the laws regarding the construction sector, the real estate developers in Rawalpindi are supposed to procure an NOC from the RDA before starting any kind of development work, let alone sell or market their projects.

The Rawalpindi District Administration has now decided to take legal action against developers and builders of such projects. Rawalpindi DC Asghar received a briefing in this regard and was also updated on cases registered by affectees of real estate scams. Taking notice of the situation, the DC issued an order to impose section 144 in the city in order to bar real estate builders from launching their housing schemes without procuring an NOC from the RDA.

In addition, as per the instructions of the DC, the city administration has displayed banners and installed billboards along Ring Road, GT Road and its surrounding areas, regarding the illegal housing schemes in this neighbourhood. This has been done so as to inform the public of such illegal housing projects, and protect them from such developments in the future.
