Islamabad: The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) on Wednesday in which it listed the steps to improve gender mainstreaming within all organizations registered with the commission, according to news sources.

The statement revealed that out of 21,168 companies registered with the commission between March 2020 and March 2021; 5,145 firms had at least one female director. Moreover, SECP stated that the registered firms should increase the maternity leave from 90 to 180 days and ensure 48% female representation in new hires and 23% representation in recent promotions.

As per the details shared, the organization said that it had 29% female representation at senior levels and 23% women are working at management cadre. The commission also quoted a World Bank (WB) publication, according to which Pakistan has improved its ranking on entrepreneurship indicator of Woman, Business and the Law (WBL) index from 50 to 75 points among 190 countries.
Also, in celebration of International Women’s Day, SECP Commissioner Sadia Khan encouraged women to actively volunteer for various activities.
