Islamabad: Federal Minister for Science & Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Thursday stated that the authorities concerned were awaiting the approval from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) for dispatching locally-manufactured ventilator designs and testing kits for diagnosing COVID-19 patients, a news source reported.

As per the publication, the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) developed 150,000 testing kits and dispatched them for DRAP’s approval, the minister said. He said that after DRAP’s approval, the testing kits would be available in the market.

Fawad said that the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) had received 48 designs for ventilators and PEC dispatched two designs for DRAP’s approval. He said that NUST had also made drones and sanitizers.

Fawad said that local ventilators would be available in the market within a month. The locally made ventilators and testing kits are as per the international standards, he added. He said that Pakistan would also export locally-produced ventilators.
