Islamabad: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday (April 29) announced two new schemes for overseas Pakistanis that have a Roshan Digital Account (RDA), a news source reported. The said schemes are Roshan Apni Car and Roshan Samaji Khidmat.
Speaking at the occasion, PM Khan said that remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis in the absence of achieving required export volume was the only way to keep the country’s economy moving. He termed the over 9 million expats spread across the globe a ‘big asset’ of the country. He instructed the Pakistani embassies and high commissions to resolve issues of Pakistani expats on priority.

The Roshan Apni Car scheme will allow overseas Pakistanis to digitally purchase a car for their family members and friends in Pakistan on reduced mark-up rates and faster delivery times. The Roshan Samaji Khidmat scheme will provide a simplified mechanism to the expats to send donations to Ehsaas and other welfare projects in Pakistan.
During the ceremony, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) President Reza Baqir revealed that over 120,000 overseas Pakistanis from 170 countries around the globe had opened their RDA. As per the statistic shared by the SBP a couple of days ago, the bank received over USD 1 billion via RDA during the last seven months (between September 2020 and March 2020).
