Peshawar: The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) on Wednesday sought practical steps from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government for development of small industries in the province, a news source reported. During a luncheon hosted for Secretary for Relief, Rehabilitation, and Settlement Aamir Latif, SCCI President Engr Maqsood Anwar Pervaiz stressed on the introduction of practical initiatives for developing small and medium-scale industries.

To this effect, Pervaiz proposed that the KP government should waive off property tax on the Small Industrial Estate in Peshawar and the Jamrud Industrial Estate. He also called for the provision electricity to all industrial estates on wheeling charges.
Furthermore, the SCCI President asked the government for infrastructural development of the small industries, along with resolving the issues face by the owners of small manufacturing units. He added that apart from setting up new economic zones, the government should also focus on provision of facilities in the existing ones.

In response, Latif said that the provision of facilities to small industries was among the top priorities of the provincial government. He added that these units played a significant role in economic development and generating employment.
