Peshawar: Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Maqsood Anwar recently urged the provincial and federal governments to resolve the major problems faced by the furniture industry and take measures to boost the export of furniture products – a news source reported.

The SCCI president made these remarks while addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the All Pakistan Furniture Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chapter. During the event, he took oaths from the newly-elected office bearers of the association, and stated that Pakistan in general, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in particular, had huge potential for furniture export. He advised that efforts should be made to increase these exports even further and that it was the government’s responsibility to address the key issues faced by the industry.

He informed the attendees that there were approximately 600 furniture units located on just the Peshawar University road. He said these and other such units around KP had played a pivotal role in the country’s furniture industry and its exports. He urged the federal and provincial governments to announce special incentives and grants for the furniture industry to help it grow further.
