Islamabad: The Supreme Court has given another three months to the authorities concerned to remove billboards from public places, a news source reported. Chief Justice Saqib Nisar dismissed all the review petitions in this regard.
As the proceedings went on, the top judge expressed dismay over lack of action on part of the authorities against billboards, saying the court would not allow any public property be used for billboards.
In August, Justice Nisar had ordered the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) to remove oversized billboards in Lahore. Following in the apex court’s footsteps, the Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered PHA to remove billboards installed on Mall Road.
In a similar ruling earlier this year, the Supreme Court had ordered the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and other agencies to remove billboards/hoardings in the metropolis. The court had maintained that there was no law that permits installing outdoor advertising billboards and signboards on public property and places.
