Karachi: A news source reported that the Karachi Registry of the Supreme Court (SC) presided over the ongoing case between the K-Electric (KE) and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and ruled in the favour of the KMC. The SC bench, headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah directed KE to resume the power supply to the KMC offices and 12 parks.

The electric power supply was disconnected due to the continuous dispute between the two organisations that arose from the non-payments and property demolition issues.
The KMC counsel informed the bench that the KMC was experiencing deficit and owes PKR 170 million in arrears. The KE cut-off the supply of the KMC offices and 12 parks in the aftermath of these problems.

The KE maintained that the employees of KMC were utilising electricity in the parks as well, without paying the dues. Upon which, Justice Shah demanded from the KMC Commissioner to explain as to why KMC employees were taking advantage of the KE? To which the commissioner replied that a request was posed to the KE to install sub-meters, but their request wasn’t complied with.
