Karachi: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered an end to all commercial activities on cantonment land in Karachi, according to a news report. The apex court also ordered Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to summon a cabinet meeting.
This meeting will determine how to restore Karachi to the vision of its original master plan. This was decided by a two-member bench comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah. The bench was hearing a case related to illegal construction.
Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah, Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shalwani and Advocate General for Sindh Salman Talibuddin attended the proceedings. The SC instructed all relevant secretaries to organise a cabinet meeting in this regard. This meeting will formulate a report to be submitted in two weeks. This report will determine how to restore Karachi to its originally planned shape. The court stated that the report should contain architectural plans and suggestions.
