Islamabad: The Supreme Court has instructed the civic agencies concerned to continue their ongoing operation against encroachments on amenity land in the metropolis, a news source reported. The court was hearing a petition on unauthorised construction pertaining to an evacuee property in Lyari.
The three-member bench observed that it is the responsibility of the civic agencies to maintain the city’s layout in accordance with its master plan.

The court also made note of the fact that shopping centres and restaurants continue to operate on these plots. No space has been left for the movement of pedestrians due to the presence of street encroachments.
Advocate General Sindh Salman Talibuddin, in a response, said that the government had obtained help from experts – geared towards restoring the city to its original plan. He requested further time for ensuring full compliance.
The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) also requested for an extra eight weeks for the operation.
