Lahore: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) ordered a commission to be formed to monitor Sindh Government’s progress on improving conditions in Thar, according to a news report. This bench was headed by SC Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, hearing a suo moto notice against the death of children in Thar due to malnutrition at SC’s Lahore registry. The other members comprising this three-member bench were Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Umar Ata Bandial.

The members appointed for this commission will include district judge Tharparkar, Dr Sonu Khanagarani, Dr Tipu Sultan, and representatives from the Sindh Government. The commission will keep an eye on matters such as the fair distribution of food and the provision of quality health and education facilities and will submit periodic reports on the situation.
