Islamabad: The Supreme Court has consulted the government and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) governor regarding its intentions to invest money collected for dam funds in government securities, a news source reported. PRK 9.1 billion have been collected for the Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams so far.
A five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was hearing a case on propaganda being conducted against the dams.
SBP Governor Tariq Bajwa suggested that the donations for dams can be invested in treasury bills. After that, they can be injected into bonds which the government will float for generating funds.
The court also directed the FBR Chairman and Attorney General to obtain government instructions on this matter. The use of the PKR 36 billion sum collected on mobile phone cards, and PKR 10 billion from mineral water companies, for the dam fund was also suggested.
