Reportedly, the court asked for the said information while presiding over a case hearing regarding the allocation of government residences. A three-member SC bench including Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel heard the said petition.
On a plea submitted by a retired government employee, the bench issued notices to the Advocate General Islamabad and the Capital Development Authority (CDA). According to the petitioner, some government officials have rented out their privately-owned houses, while retaining residences in government-allotted houses.
In response, the court also asked for the compilation of data on illegal occupation and allocation of government housing. During the hearing, the chief justice also inquired as to how many government properties had been repossessed and to whom these vacant homes had been assigned. Justice Mazhar also noted that certain employees had received a double allotment.
