Lahore: The Supreme Court (SC) has directed all cantonment boards of the country to remove billboard panels within six weeks, a news source reported.

A two-judge bench of the apex court comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Azmat Saeed issued the orders on a case pertaining to the removal of billboards from all major cities of the country.
Previously, the SC had issued orders to remove billboards from public spaces. Following the orders, authorities concerned conducted multiple operations to remove the billboards.

During Thursday’s hearing, the bench observed that the authorities concerned had yet to remove several billboard structures situated in different areas.
Justice Saeed stated that the removal of the structures was the responsibility of the cantonment boards. He advised that the structures should be auctioned off provided the advertising companies do not respond to the boards’ requests for removing them.

The lawyer representing the cantonment boards assured the bench that the structures would be removed on an immediate basis. The bench then adjourned the hearing for the duration of the summer holidays, and directed the boards to submit a comprehensive report on the matter within six weeks.
