Karachi: Over 20 industries on Thursday were directed to install on their premises, treatment plants and septic tanks by the Supreme Court. The industries are all located near the industrial zones that fall under Port Qasim Authority (PQA)’s jurisdiction.
Retired apex court judge Amir Hani Muslim headed the commission and said that the owners should be warned that their industries would be sealed if they did not take immediate action to install the facilities outlined by the court. They were given two months to install the septic tanks and three months to acquire treatment plants.
Owners of around 35 different industries were present during the session after they were sent notices by the authority. While 15 said that they already had the required facilities in place, the rest were directed to resolve the situation or face the consequences.
Some industry owners present also claimed that their industries were non-functional. The commission instructed that they acquire the relevant facilities before their plants became operational again.
