Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Monday (July 20) asked for the lease details of the petrol stations established on the state land located around the areas surrounding the Grand Trunk (GT) Road, according to news sources.

The demand was made by a three-member bench of the SC, which was headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed along with Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel. The court bench was presiding over a suo moto case hearing regarding the open auctions of the lease of these petrol pumps.

The apex court has asked for the details of the land allotted to various petrol pumps, restaurants and hotels. In addition, the court has also requested for the details of the licences issued by the National Highway Authority (NHA) and also summoned the NHA Chairman Jawad Rafique Malik. The counsel informed the court that the NHA owns 220 feet around the GT road. In response, Justice Ijaz remarked that the said land was granted for construction, repairing and extension of the road. The hearing of the case is adjourned for two weeks.
