Lahore: The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has approved the Implementation Committee (IC)’s recommendations for timely initiation and completion of development work at Diamer-Bhasha Dam and Mohmand Dam, reported a news source. The approval allows for start of long-pending development work on the two crucial projects.
The rehabilitation of local population that’s to be displaced due to Diamer-Bhasha Dam has awaiting a solid solution from the last one decade. The IC’s recommendations have however fixed it by presenting a new formula. This formula allows for meeting the needs and requirements of the displaced people and at the same time make initiation of development work at the site possible in the near future.
The SC has also approved the recommendations given for increasing the process of buying land for Mohmand Dam. These recommendations also highlighted the fact that people living near the sites of the two projects will benefit from availability of better health, education and transportation facilities and also offer employment opportunities.
In addition to approving these recommendations, SC also ordered that all the concerned departments and ministries to work on forming a procedure to implement these recommendations. The apex court also appreciated the efforts of the IC work to form these recommendations formed under the supervision of Wapda Chairman General (R) Muzammil Hussain.
