Karachi: Marking its 70th anniversary, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) revealed its policies for Vision 2020 and 2030 on 1st July 2018, according to a news report. The event was attended by foreign dignitaries, bankers, economics, and politicians.
The SBP governor Tariq Bajwa said that by the year 2030, the SBP should be a tech-based organisation, and that the central bank and banking sector should be willing and able to absorb new technology within this time. A number of prominent themes were discussed at the event.
Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, the Caretaker Finance Minister and who led the bank from 2005-2009 talked about the importance of green banking. Yaseen Anwar, governor from 2011-2014, also spoke at the event. The notable speakers present discussed monetary and fiscal coordination, impact of inflation, government policies, and the relevance of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
