Karachi: State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Reza Baqir recently stated that the central bank was aware of the issues faced by the country’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) — including complications in obtaining financing facilities from banks — and that these would be resolved soon, a news source reported.

The SBP governor made these comments during a meeting with presidents of several chambers of commerce. During the session, he stated that despite the highlighted problems, 1,320 companies had availed the finance scheme launched by SBP, and that PKR 96 billion had been disbursed in this regard during the past three months.
He added that the said project had been launched in order to minimise the adverse effects of the coronavirus pandemic, and to help a number of businesses survive these difficult times.

He further said that such meetings between the various stakeholders of the economy should be held regularly so that the SBP could introduce better policies after understanding the requirements of the business community.
