Karachi: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has invited feedback on its draft policy to enhance financial inclusion of women in order to address one of the major challenges hindering economic growth of the country – a news source reported on December 22.

The SBP governor Dr. Reza Baqir also hosted a webinar titled “Launch of Consultation on Banking on Equality policy: Reducing the Gender Gap in Financial Inclusion” on Monday for this purpose. The webinar included an exclusive panel discussion with international thought leaders in the area of gender and finance including Aga Khan Development Network Director Princess Zahra Aga Khan, International Monetary Fund Director of Strategy, Policy and Review Department Ms. Ceyla Pazarbasioglu and SBP Governor Dr. Reza Baqir. The discussion was moderated by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation President of Gender Equality Dr. Anita Zaidir.

The webinar was attended by both local and international stakeholders including public officials, international agencies, banks, and associations. Nearly 1,000 people also watched the webinar on social media.
The policy which is available of SBP website will be further developed as per the feedback and it is expected to be officially launched in February 2021.
