Karachi: The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) recently conducted a mega-scale crackdown against illegal constructions and unlawful infrastructural additions upon existing structures in the city — with this initiative planned in the wake of the recent collapse of a residential building in Golimar, according to the news sources.

Reportedly, the SBCA Demolition Squad has sealed or demolished the structures found violating the building bylaws, upon the directives of Director General SBCA Dr Nasim-ul-Ghani Sahito.
As per the details available, the operation was conducted against 15 illegal constructions. The demolition squad teams razed illegal additions made to buildings in Usmania Colony located within the vicinity of Liaquatabad Town. Moreover, encroachments located on nine plots in Nazimabad were also demolished. Similarly, additions to existing structures and encroachments were removed from various parts of the city.

Previously, the SBCA had prepared a list of illegal buildings in Karachi in the aftermath of a residential building that recently collapsed — leaving tragic fatalities in its wake. As per the SBCA spokesperson, this list was divided into town-wise entries of violating structures, and a grand operation was planned to demolish all illegal constructions in the city’s highlighted areas.
