Karachi: The Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani has instructed the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) Director General (DG) to compile a list of marriage halls in the city, a news source reported. This list will then be scrutinised for irregularities; followed by the minister’s approval for the demolition of halls constructed on amenity plots.

The Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has also directed the DG to withdraw all notices sent to wedding hall administrations, until the provincial government files a review petition in court.
Following Minister Ghani’s assurances, the Karachi Marriage Halls Association took back their call of shutting down wedding halls from Sunday onwards.
The Supreme Court, on January 22, had banned the residential-to-commercial conversion of plots. It had also directed the authorities concerned to restore the city to its original state from 40 years ago.
