Karachi: The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has launched a crackdown against illegally constructed multi-storey buildings in several parts of the city, including Saddar Town and Gulberg — a news source reported on August 1. SBCA Director General (DG) Ashkar Dawar personally oversaw the operation.

Speaking to the media on the occasion, he stated that all the illegal constructions around the city would soon be demolished. Reportedly, the SBCA’s demolition teams continued their work during Sunday as well — with the authority targeting 8-storey buildings that have been constructed in contravention of the local bylaws.

The DG has issued instructions to completely raze all the illegally constructed buildings in the city without any hesitation. This includes demolishing not only the floors that have been added without proper verification, but also entire structures that have been illegally constructed. He also instructed the demolition squad to complete the work in the timeframe set by the government.
