Karachi: The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and Karachi Development Authority (KDA) have initiated legal proceedings against the illegal commercial use of residential properties across the city. The two authorities informed the Sindh High Court (SHC) that immediate notices would be issued to violators, followed by strict legal action.
During a hearing on petitions regarding unauthorized commercial activities in residential areas, the SBCA and KDA chiefs assured the court that they were actively addressing the issue. They also stated that the public was being encouraged to report such violations directly to the authorities through media campaigns.

A petitioner’s counsel had earlier submitted a list of 28 cases of commercial misuse of residential properties, claiming that no action had been taken. The SBCA and KDA heads, however, maintained that enforcement efforts were underway and would be documented in a report to be submitted to the court.
In a separate case concerning illegal commercial activity in Clifton, private respondents assured the court that the property in question would not be used for any unauthorized purpose. The SBCA and KDA officials also pledged to ensure compliance with zoning regulations.
The SHC directed both authorities to submit detailed reports on the ongoing enforcement measures and lifted an interim stay order that had previously restrained action on certain properties due to non-prosecution.
