Karachi: The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) on Thursday (July 16) approved construction licenses for 38 real estate developers and 12 other professionals hailing from the construction sector – who met its set criteria, rules and regulations, according to a news source.

The decision was taken during the SBCA Licensing Committee meeting, held with the authority’s Director General (DG) Naseem Sahito in the chair. Addressing the meeting members, the SBCA DG said that the construction industry is an important part of the economy, since it is directly connected with several other industries and thus responsible for providing countless employment opportunities. Keeping this in mind, ‘the SBCA has adapted to improve its functions in order to facilitate the industry and accommodate more people,’ said the DG.

The SBCA License Committee briefed Sahito on the applications received for the issuance of licenses, where out of the 38, the authority approved 31, and placed six on hold – on accounts of the applicants being absent – and rejected one where the applicant had failed to submit the required documents.

In addition to the aforementioned, the SBCA issued professional license to four architects, three picketing engineers, one town planner, three structure engineers and one license for setting up material testing laboratory.
