Karachi: The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has set up a hotline for the public to report all dilapidated and dangerous buildings in the city prone to collapsing during the upcoming monsoon season, according to a news report published today (July 7).

The authority has requested the public to share details on all such buildings and structures that can collapse due to their various reasons like: old structure, dilapidated condition and bad construction quality by calling on the following numbers:

In addition to this initiative, the authority has established a Rain Emergency SBCA Club House, which is located at the back Centre at Civic Centre. The SBCA technical staff will work 24 hours at the emergency centre with officials working in three shifts to ensure that relief and related services are offered in case of an emergency.

In order to ensure that the city is kept safe from further incidents of collapsing buildings, the SBCA has completed the survey identifying dangerous buildings in Karachi. According to this survey, 422 buildings in the city have been identified as ‘dangerous’ and thus not recommended for habitation. Reportedly, the authority has also issued notices to the building owners and residents to vacate the premises immediately.
