To this effect, Aslam stated that the Ministry of Climate Change had identified vehicles as the major contributors to the increasing smog levels; adding that transport services were seen to cause 40% of the smog in the city.
He further stated that the government was working to provide euro 5 fuel instead of euro 2, as it was considered more environment-friendly. He said that the executive had provided its approval to the ‘Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy’ to tackle the effects of climate change and offer affordable transport facilities.
He also announced that a 3,500-acre national park was being established near Balloki near Lahore; further stating that the government would initiate a ‘National Park Service’ to promote eco-tourism in the country.

He opined that the 10 billion tree tsunami initiative was creating jobs and contributing towards a green economy in addition to planting saplings. The SAPM stated that the government had announced the green stimulus initiative to initiate climate recovery. The city of Lahore, he said, had lost 70% of its forest cover in the last 15 years and it served as the biggest reason for the increased smog levels in the city.
