Lahore: The Punjab government has approved waste management and rural sanitation projects for 72 villages – a news source reported.
Senior minister Aleem Khan said that two villages will be selected from each district. He added that the government will encourage community participation for the project. Nominal service charges will be levied.

Furthermore, three-membered teams will be tasked to collect garbage. These teams will be present in every village. The district administrations will provide rickshaws for the collection process.
The minister lamented that no proper waste disposal system currently exists in the rural areas. Prime Minister Imran Khan previously directed to develop a comprehensive rural sanitation programme.

He announced that sanitary workers will be paid no less than PKR 20,000. He also directed the departments concerned to effectively monitor the programme. Moreover, Aleem Khan said that suggestions will be sought from local MNAs and MPAs on improving the situation.
Secretary Local Bodies Capt (retired) Saif Anjum briefed the minister about the programme. Director General Local Bodies Mahmood Javed Bhatti and other officials concerned were also present at the occasion.
