Karachi: Samsung Electronics has partnered with a local manufacturer R&R Industries Pvt Ltd to establish a TV manufacturing plant in Pakistan, news sources reported. The joint venture plant will be established in the Korangi Industrial Area of Karachi.

Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Advisor for Commerce Industry Abdul Razak Dawood took to Twitter to announce the launch of the project. According to the advisor, the project will roll out the first units in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2021. The annual production capacity of the project is said to be 50,000 units. The advisor said that the successful establishment of the manufacturing unit is a success of the government’s “Make in Pakistan” initiative. Under the new setup, a total of 700 jobs will be created with an annual turnover of PKR 5 billion. The local manufacturing partner R&R Industries Chief Executive officer (CEO) Moosa said that the initiative is a great step toward Pakistan’s industrialisation and manufacturing potential.

This project is the second of its kind between local manufacturing heads and Samsung Electronics, as Lucky Motor Corporation (LMC) announced in July that it had entered into an agreement with Samsung for local manufacturing of smartphones in Pakistan, with the plant expected to become operational by December 2021.
