Lahore: Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister (CM) Mohsin Naqvi has directed the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to expedite work on the Samanabad Underpass project and complete it before the April 15 deadline, news sources reported on January 26.

CM Naqvi asked the LDA to utilise all available resources and implement a round-the-clock strategy to ensure the early completion of the project. He said that the project is of extreme importance for the city as it will solve traffic congestion in the key areas of the city. Furthermore, he also presided over a review meeting of the ongoing development projects in the city and asked the concerned authorities to complete the re-modelling project of the Central Business District from Kalma Chowk to Liberty (CBD Punjab Boulevard). He also directed the authorities to open the two lanes of Main Boulevard in the next 24 hours to provide relief to the commuters.

It is important to note that the Samanabad Underpass project is one of the five multi-billion rupee projects in the city that are aimed at reducing traffic-related issues. The government has allocated PKR 20 billion for all five mega projects that also include, Samanabad T-Junction, the Data Darbar car parking project, the Kalma Chowk Underpass project and the multi-level flyover and underpass project at Shahdra.
