Lahore: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar on Wednesday announced that the sacred Christian site Mariamabad would soon be opened for international tourism, a news source reported. He revealed this information while addressing a seminar at the Governor House on National Minority Day.

Mariamabad, located in the Sheikhupura District, is home to the National Marian Shrine. The shrine serves as a site for annual pilgrimages for the September 8 feast of the birth of Mary. The pilgrimage event has been taking place since 1949.
Speaking at the seminar, Sarwar said that the incumbent government planned on introducing a quota for religious minorities in the country, pertaining to jobs within the public sector. Referring to the successful completion of the Kartarpur project, he added that the government was committed to ensuring the safety of minority rights in the country.

Sarwar highlighted that minorities enjoyed equal rights and all facilities in the country, as the government strived for realising the dream of a progressive Pakistan.
