Islamabad: Russia and Pakistan have agreed to enhance cooperation in key sectors, including energy, industry, transport, and agriculture, in 2025, according to a news source on February 13.

As per the details, the Russian Ambassador to Pakistan, Albert P. Khorev, emphasised Russia’s commitment to supporting the modernisation of Karachi Steel Mills and exploring joint initiatives in infrastructure development.
In a statement released Tuesday, Khorev highlighted Russia’s readiness to expand collaboration on international transport corridors such as “North-South” and “Belarus-Russia-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan”. The modernisation of the Quetta-Taftan railway line and increased maritime cargo transportation are also under consideration to boost regional connectivity.
On security matters, Russia reaffirmed its support for Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts and commitment to regional stability, particularly in Afghanistan. Discussions on mutual concerns continue under the Moscow Format of Consultations and other multilateral platforms.
The ambassador also underscored the growing importance of Pakistan-Russia cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). Russia aims to work with Pakistan in enhancing SCO’s economic influence, developing independent financial systems, strengthening industrial ties, and improving regional logistics.
