Lahore: In the absence of proper rules, millions of litres of water are being wasted on a daily basis at thousands of car wash stations in the country, reported a news source. So far, no planning has been done to save water on these stations, while rules for pulling underground water through boring pumps is also missing.
The car wash business is deemed lucrative as it involves comparatively smaller capital for setting up a station. On most of these stations, water is being drilled via pumps and that’s in addition to official water connections the car wash owners have. In populated areas, the water connections for these stations are offered from the main water supply line.
In addition to wasting millions of litre of clean water on daily basis, these car wash stations also cause water pollution by draining chemically contaminated water in the sewerage lines.
