Lahore: The Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) has decided to collaborate with a United States (US)-based company to set up wastewater treatment plants around River Ravi to address the problem of contaminated water going to the river through the 12 drains, according to news published in the national dailies on October 20.

As per the details, the treatment plants will treat 1,100 cusecs of contaminated water in order to revive the aqua life in the river. In this regard, RUDA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Imran Amin met Bio Cleaner CEO Eros Kaw to discuss the process of the wastewater treatment plant. During the meeting, CEO Amin was briefed about the overview of the benefits of the project and explained how the impure water will be filtered to make it drinkable and clean.

Moreover, the water plant will encompass world-class technology and will cost PKR 80 billion. The news source mentioned that more than 1,100 cusecs of impure water will be treated and pumped into the river every day from wastewater treatment plants that will be set up in different locations along the River Ravi including Mahmood Booti, Shahdara, and Shadbagh. It was mentioned that this project will promote boating, fishing businesses, and tourism in the city.
