The RUDA has launched work on barrage design and river training by gathering required data in collaboration with various departments. As per the details, the data was collected by the officials of the irrigation department, RUDA, National Engineering Service Pakistan (NESPAK), and Indus River System Authority (IRSA). During the data collection process, the teams analysed water quality, flow, and flood situations.
Moreover, the RUDA has planned a project to rehabilitate the River Ravi and convert it into a perennial freshwater body, having environmental and social benefits. In Phase 1, the river training works for the first three kilometres of the river channel and six-kilometres downstream Ravi Siphon on the right side of the river bank have been launched.

According to the details, the proposed embankment will help protect the area from threats of flood and erosion. It was mentioned that the river training works will decrease the damage caused by the floods and river flow. The construction of the barrage is a vital part of the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project (RRUDP) because it will help revive the river and minimise the possibility of a flood. Currently, the ground levelling and grubbing work are in process and field density tests are being conducted to make sure the soil has the required compaction.
