Lahore: Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Imran Amin disclosed that the authority plans to construct 100,000 low-cost houses along River Ravi, according to news published in the leading newspaper on January 28.

RUDA CEO Amin met a landscape architect from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Dr James L. Wescoat and a team from Lahore University for Management Sciences (LUMS). The landscape architect has shown keen interest in learning more about Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project (RRUDP) – the world’s largest riverside development project.
Director of Hydrology Mohsin Atiq briefed the attendees on the project’s ecological, environmental, and hydrological elements. The CEO highlighted that the first objective of RUDA is to revitalise the environment and ecology. He added that the RUDA has plans to build low-cost houses using its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.

During the meeting, CEO Amin also addressed RUDA’s objectives for garbage disposal, forest planting to effect change and water treatment. Dr Wescoat shared his technical skills and future direction for the project. The CEO mentioned that all necessary steps will be taken to make sure the project’s success and to protect Lahore against future water and environmental concerns.
