Bahawalpur: The Regional Tax Office (RTO) has served tax notices to the owners of 121 unregistered housing societies and 10 unauthorised commercial plazas in Bahawalpur – a news source reported.

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chief Commissioner Dr Ashfaq Ahmed Tunio revealed that the tax department has also recently unearthed four warehouses where illegal stock of sugar (belonging to unidentified owners) was stored to evade sales tax. He said cases of non-payment of sales tax were instituted against the owners of the warehouses. Further, a sum of PKR 140 million was recovered under the head of tax arrears and fines.

Speaking of another case, he explained that the tax office has also detected a wholesale dealer of crockery who had 210 suppliers and 1,300 buyers in south Punjab. The dealer had an annual sale of more than two billion rupees. He has been asked to submit his income details so they can be verified.

He also added that tax revenue recovery from cotton ginning factories this year was PKR 75 million higher than the recovery in the Bahawalpur division during the previous year.
