Lahore: The federal government recently announced its decision to complete 8 major projects under a public-private partnership (PPP) model during (financial year) FY2020-21 — with the development of the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) and Lahore Ring Road (LRR)-Southern Loop 3 forming part of the initiative, according to a news source.

The other projects to be completed under the PPP model include the installation of water meters in Weaving City, Faisalabad, and the development of the Gujrat-Jalalpur Jattan road and the dual carriageway of the Multan-Vehari Road. These projects — excluding the RRR — will not require the purchase of new land.

Reportedly, the RRR is expected to be completed within a period of two years, and is expected to significantly improve the traffic situation in the twin cities — particularly Islamabad. The land acquisition for the project had been launched earlier this year, with the authorities planning on establishing industrial zones, a health city, an education city, housing projects, and commercial areas along its routes.
