Rawalpindi: The Chairman Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Mohammad Arif Abbasi said in a press briefing that the Punjab government has allocated PKR 4 billion for the acquisition of land for the development of the 54-kilometres long Ring Road project of the RDA, according to news sources.

The chairman was adamant that this Ring Road project will resolve the city’s traffic woes, which is major reason for the provincial government to support this project. He revealed that the project is likely to cost over PKR 100 billion in total. The Punjab government’s work on a feasibility study has also been initiated, and a consultant has been hired. After the land has been acquired and the feasibility study completed, the final report will be tabled before the provincial government for review and approval.
The chairman has assured that the project will be launched once it is approved, and steps will be taken to complete it in the shortest time possible.

While commenting on the progress of WASA, the chairman said that he is presently focusing on recovering dues from residential and commercial defaulters. He added that the agency has recovered over 70% of these dues and is in a better financial position as a result. The revenue generated helped WASA to clear its outstanding dues of approximately PKR 200 million with LESCO. The chairman said that he is now focusing on strategies to cut the annual deficit of PKR 1.5 billion.
