Rawalpindi: City Commissioner Captain (retired) Mohammad Mehmood on Saturday directed the land revenue department to identify all tracts of private lands along with the details of their owners for the development of the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project — with the undertaking aimed at compensating landowners for their holdings accordingly, according to news sources.

The commissioner made these remarks while reviewing the 64-kilometre-long RRR project that is to be developed with an estimated budget of PKR 64 billion. On the occasion, commissioner Mehmood further directed the building department to conduct a survey of the RRR project area to identify all encroachments on state-owned land so that they could be removed at a later date. He also took the opportunity to iterate his resolve to protect and conserve all the natural streams and trees at the project site.

The commissioner said that the RRR project was not just a road project but had the potential to become the next commercial hub in the city. He revealed that the government planned on moving all the main markets in the city to the Ring Road. He added that that the road plan in this regard had already been prepared, and that it would soon be forwarded to the government for approval in order to initiate the land acquisition process.
