Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has started preparations to lay the foundation stone for Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) in March 2019, a project planned 25 years ago, reported a news source. The foundation stone will be laid by Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar. Please note, the RRR’s alignment was finalised in October 2018.
The project will also feature mono trains, for which the authorities concerned have decided to allocate space. The track for mono trains will be laid in cooperation with Pakistan Railways. The project will be funded by Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) of China, which will provide PKR 47 billion for its development. In this regard, the RDA requested AIIB to issue initial funds for setting up Project Management Unit for RRR.
The 38-kilometre long track of RRR will have three interchanges, 10 overhead bridges, six regular bridges, and a 15-kilometre long network of link roads, for which 1,080 acres of land will be acquired. The process for land acquisition will be started soon. The Government of Punjab allocated PKR 6 billion for RRR land acquisition in Finance Supplementary (Amendment) Bill, 2018, announced back in October 2018 for the remaining months of the fiscal year.
The project will be completed in two years and is a highly significant project for the region.
